I'm starting a new page that I will add to as I help others with real life computer problems. My first question will deal with installing a router also called firewall. I recently advised at least four people to get a router and install it between their cable or DSL modem and their computer. I recommend the Linksys router model # BEFSR41. Question: I bought a
new laptop in January '06. I was using dial up service by Juno. During
that time I was setup pretty well. I was satisfied that everything I
used was in good working order. Including my all in one printer. I
even faxed a couple of times.
This month I switched from a dial up service to DSL with Verizon. Now my modem is outside the laptop and I am no longer hooked up to my internal modem. Consequently I cannot fax now. I have tried to go into the fax console to change or add the DSL modem. The software will not allow a change of any kind. I have tried tech service that came with the purchase. They will charge me $35 dollars for any meaningful dialogue at this time. I cannot afford that kind of expense. I am retired living on a fixed income.
